Grilled Cheese: 5 ways

If you're in search of the perfect back-to-school lunchbox stuffer or mid-day snack, keep reading on! Everyone loves a good classic grilled cheese. But if you want to change it up a bit, below are different ways to make the family-favourite cheesy sandwich. 

Classic Cheddar Grilled Cheese

Ingredients

  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese 
  • 2 slices bread 
  • 1 tbsp. butter

Steps

  1. Take the cheese and press between two slices of bread. 
  2. Melt butter on a skillet and place the sandwich in. 
  3. Fry until bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted

Ham and Egg Grilled Cheese

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread 
  • 1 tbsp. butter 
  • 1 slice white cheddar cheese or swiss cheese 
  • 1 fried egg 
  • Ham, thinly sliced

Steps

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in pan. 
  2. Fry egg and ham to your liking. 
  3. Place slice of ham, cheese and egg on in between slices of bread. 
  4. Melt butter in a pan and place sandwich in. 
  5. Fry until golden brown and cheese is melted.


Cheesy Mushroom Melt 

Ingredients

  • white mushrooms or brown button mushroom, sliced 
  • tablespoon butter 
  • fresh thyme or chives 
  • salt and pepper, to taste 
  • 2 slices bread 
  • shredded cheese 
  • butter

Steps

  1. Melt butter in a pan over medium heat. 
  2. Add mushrooms and fry until cooked
  3. Season mushrooms with salt and pepper, add thyme or chives 
  4. Mix cheese into the mushrooms. 
  5. Butter one side of each slice of bread and place in pan, butter side down. 
  6. Top each slice with cheesy mushrooms 
  7. Grill bread until golden brown

Pizza Grilled Cheese 

Ingredients

  • 2 slices Bread 
  • Shredded cheese
  • 2 tablespoons pizza sauce 
  • Parmesan cheese shredded 
  • 1 tablespoon basil 
  • 1 pinch dried oregano
  • 6 slices pepperoni 
  • Butter 

Steps

  1. Preheat pan over medium heat. 
  2. Butter bread and place butter side down in pan. Top each slice with 1 tablespoon pizza sauce. 
  3. Layer cheese, slices of pepperoni, parmesan, basil, oregano, pepperoni and mozzarella. 
  4. Top with remaining bread, butter side out. 
  5. Cook until golden. 

Grilled Mac & Cheese Sandwich 

Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread 
  • 2 slices cheddar cheese 
  • 1 tablespoon butter 
  • 3/4 cups leftover Mac & Cheese

Steps

  1. Heat up mac & cheese in a pan. 
  2. Butter the bread slices and place in another pan on medium heat. 
  3. Top one slice of bread with 2 slices cheese. Use spatula to transfer mac & cheese onto cheese covered bread in the skillet. 
  4. Cover with the other bread slice. Press together and serve
