Snack: Ground Beef Taco Dip

Ingredients
The flavours of this quick and easy dip will remind you of a comforting bowl of chili. It’s the perfect add-on to a summer BBQ or Fall gathering.
- 1-pound lean ground beef or wild meat or chicken/turkey
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 envelope taco seasoning, preferably low salt
- ½ to 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to your taste)
- 1 ½ cups sour cream, preferably low fat
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, preferably low fat, at room temperature
- 2 cups romaine lettuce, shredded
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
- 3 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 medium green pepper, finely chopped
- 1 can sliced jalapeno (250 mL) peppers, drained and chopped (optional)
Directions for Preparation
- In a large frying pan, cook and crumble the ground meat and onion over medium heat for at least 10 minutes.
- Drain the grease. Add the water, half of the taco seasoning envelope plus chili powder to your taste.
- Cook until thickened, about 2-3 minutes. Turn off heat and set aside.
- Using a hand mixer or a fork, beat the sour cream, cream cheese and leftover taco seasoning until blended.
- Spread into a large, shallow dish then top with the ground meat mixture.
- Top with lettuce, cheddar, tomatoes, pepper, and jalapeno peppers (optional).
- Serve along anything to dip and scoop like a veggie sticks, low salt nacho chips or crackers.
