That is why we have a Canadian Proud program in our stores, to help highlight and support Canadian made products.
What does Canadian made mean? It means that the product has been brought together with the most important steps of production, occurring in Canada. As an example, the processing of cheese, dough, sauce and other ingredients used to create a pizza, would qualify. Made in Canada products may have some ingredients that are imported from other countries.
There are also Products of Canada, where almost all major ingredients, including the production and labour used to make the food product, are Canadian. As an example, a cookie that is manufactured in Canada from oatmeal, enriched flour, butter, honey and milk from Canada, and imported vanilla, may use the claim "Product of Canada" even if the vitamins in the flour and the vanilla are not from Canada.
